The Ethereum developer meeting in June confirmed the Cancun upgrade, which is centered around EIP-4844 and will be completed in the second half of the year. At the same time, the macro environment is also changing rapidly. Can OP be optimistic again? LD Capital analyzed OP’s existing issues, future plans, deep integration with EIP-4844, and other data and performances, and believes that the Cancun upgrade will be a catalyst for OP’s upcoming changes.
Currently, OP Mainnet faces issues such as centralization of the sorter, ineffective fraud proof, and the need to further improve the network’s ecological activity. However, the new narrative of OP Mainnet is ambitious and being implemented effectively. Based on the plan, OP Mainnet intends to complete the next-generation fault proof Cannon in 2023 and pave the way for network decentralization in 2024, expanding the influence of the entire OP ecosystem through retroPGF funding and superchain aggregation.
The KanKun upgrade, centered around EIP-4844, will be used to scale Ethereum L1 through optimization, which will benefit the entire L2 track by lowering fees. Currently, OP has the lowest fees of all chains in the L2 track and is deeply involved in promoting EIP-4844, as reflected in the modular architecture of the OP Stack. As the project that is closest to ETH core developers, OP is expected to efficiently adapt to the KanKun upgrade and further reduce fees.

The recently completed Bedrock has effectively promoted the new narrative node of OP Mainnet and made the network more efficient and cost-effective, which has been positively received by the market. The KanKun upgrade in the second half of the year will be a significant event that cannot be ignored in the entire L2 track, and we can look forward to OP’s performance in the KanKun upgrade with optimism.
