Reflections and Summaries of 2 Years in the Circle, Receiving a 1 Million ARB Airdrop

Time flies by. I have completed six months of substitute service in Taiwan and successfully discharged from the military. I haven’t paid much attention to what’s happening in the community for a while, so I want to summarize and reflect on my growth in the past two years of being in the community.

Perhaps only a few friends know that I made nearly 1 million dollars in profit through the ARB airdrop. At this critical moment when I should have been looking for a job, it allowed me to slow down and think about how to proceed in the next stage of my life.

Coming from a traditional family where both parents are civil servants, I am grateful that crypto has given me the opportunity to see the vast world beyond the well and experience my own insignificance. By choosing the right track and working hard, coupled with the favor of Lady Luck, it actually feels like my life should have been mediocre, but now everything seems far from mediocre.

When I first entered the community in 2021, I, like most people, tried to make a fortune by investing in “shitcoins” and hoping for a hundredfold return. However, I ended up losing more than I earned. It wasn’t until I heard about the wealth creation myths of dydx and ENS through airdrops that I realized the substantial profits in the airdrop industry. At the same time, I realized that I didn’t know anyone in the community, so I started sharing valuable information on Twitter. At that time, there were few audiences in the crypto community on Twitter, so you had to work very hard to produce high-quality content in order to accumulate followers.

There were still very few people doing airdrops at that time, unlike the abundance of tutorials that can be found everywhere now. I started rolling up my sleeves and participating in airdrops. $psp became the first airdrop that made me money. At that time, having a few followers made me ecstatic. I even wrote a tutorial on airdrops for the “petty bourgeoisie” and received nearly a thousand bookmarks and likes, which gave me a great sense of achievement. It was also during that time that I began to accumulate my influence and attract attention from others.

Coincidentally, the emergence of Galxe, a rising on-chain credential platform led to a new wave of airdrop frenzy. At that time, being a mod (moderator) was very popular, and I volunteered myself to @0xbobchien (Bob, the BD of Galxe at that time) and expressed my desire to become a mod. I also answered questions in the Discord group every day. Fortunately, among the hundreds of thousands of community members, I became the first mod who came from the community, and that’s when everyone affectionately called me “Da Huang”.

I started a daily routine of waking up in the afternoon and answering questions in Discord until the early morning. Perhaps because I came from the community, I had a special understanding of users’ feelings. Whenever there was an event, I would receive countless private messages that I could hardly respond to. Every day, there were various types of questions. I would solve the ones I could solve and figure out who to turn to for the ones I couldn’t, whether it was front-end or back-end developers, data processors, smart contract experts, or project collaborators.

Compared to those mods who either gave empty promises or had an overly self-righteous attitude, I, with little work experience, almost always managed to handle every community crisis without much criticism. Until several months later when the airdrop was distributed, myself and a few other hardworking Galaxy Brains received tens of thousands of dollars in airdrops. This work experience was very valuable to me. It not only allowed me to learn how a web3 team operates up close but also introduced me to the super awesome bosses and colleagues at Galxe. I also had the opportunity to meet some great partners at offline gatherings in Taiwan.

After leaving the galaxy, it happened to be my college graduation. I was waiting for the conscription at home. During the nearly one-year period, I started to focus on blockchain full-time. In June, I received an invitation from @KuiGas. I joined @33daoweb3. The gears of fate began to turn. 2022 was also the darkest moment in the cryptocurrency industry. LUNA went to zero, Three Arrows went bankrupt, FTX closed down. But by learning from the experts in the group, I gained a whole new understanding of investment research and interaction.

After that, I was busy with various blockchain-related activities. I didn’t have enough time, so I temporarily stopped updating Twitter. All my energy was spent on blockchain. Let me describe my life at that time. Looking back now, it was really intense. I didn’t know much about programming, so I just used an excel spreadsheet. I repeated the same routine every day, from waking up and clicking the mouse to going to bed. While you were making money from NFTs and participating in token sales, I was losing money on gas fees and rushing to buy meme coins. I didn’t know how I managed to get through that time. My only belief at the time was that if I persisted, there would definitely be a project that would make me money.

I have a deep impression of a meeting at 33DAO during that bear market. Teacher @hebi555 gave us a passionate speech, saying: “As long as the project is worth investing in, you should invest heavily in it.” I took this to heart. Coincidentally, OP launched their token at that time, and I chose ARB as my target because it aimed to be a Layer 2 solution. I invested heavily in it, without any particular strategy, just focusing on the amount of funds, frequency of transactions, and number of trades. I perfectly executed 500 ARB witch isolations.

While waiting for the ARB Odyssey, I received the conscription notice. I went through two weeks of training in Success Ridge. One night, I received a call from a college classmate. ARB had launched its token. I was extremely nervous, but because I trusted him very much, I asked him to help me claim the tokens. The next night, he hurriedly claimed the tokens on his phone and immediately called me. I was shocked when I heard the numbers. I knew I had succeeded. All the pain in my wrist from excessive clicking, waking up in the middle of the night in pain, and taking three painkillers a day to continue playing, everything was worth it.

Later, I gave my friend a car and a big red envelope. It’s not that I thanked him for not rug pulling me, but after spending a long time together, I knew he was not that kind of person. I also want to thank my parents and the group members who helped me along the way (a scientist even helped me run some ODOs positions, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars without taking a penny). I was really lucky to have met such kind and generous people.

It was only a few months later that I finished dealing with everything and it was finally my turn. I bought a car to reward myself. This was probably the only big expense I made for myself because I knew that making money is easy but keeping it is difficult. After making money, I need to stay humble. Part of my success is attributed to luck, and I can’t guarantee that this luck will continue. If I squander it, I may end up losing everything.

The above is just a brief description of my experience entering the circle. It can be regarded as a story. I believe that many people have wonderful stories. But what I think is more important is that in the coin circle, I have learned many things that schools would never teach. Here are a few points that I have found most useful and some advice for newcomers:

1. Managing self-media is the most effective leverage for networking: If you, like me, have no connections or background, I recommend starting to manage self-media. This is the fastest way for strangers to get to know you. It will definitely be tough at the beginning, but if you persist, the rewards it brings will far exceed what money can measure. More importantly, it can help you meet those outstanding people who are difficult to meet in real social circles.

2. Surround yourself with the best people in an industry and absorb the successful experiences of the elites: Successful experiences cannot be replicated, but they can be learned. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to meet many experts when I entered the circle. They gave me the motivation and goals to move forward, so that I would not become complacent. Your circle determines your perception, and your perception ultimately affects your ability to make money. I can clearly say that I was once a frog at the bottom of a well. The more I climb up, the more I realize how ignorant and inadequate I am. If you have the opportunity to meet an expert, even if it’s just a sentence or an opportunity they give you, it could be a lifeline that turns your fate around.

3. No need to envy others, be good at summarizing your own progress, and know how to applaud others: In the past, I used to have that kind of sour grapes mentality when others made money. But later I found that I would never be happy like this, because no matter how much you earn, there will always be someone who earns more than you. So pay attention to your own progress, applaud others for their success, and see if there are any areas where you can learn from them. A good mindset can help you make the right investment decisions.

4. 1% of the wealth in the market is left to those who are willing to do the 99% of things that most people are not willing to do: Many of those elites have put in several times the effort of ordinary people. Even though I know I am just an ordinary person with an average intelligence and poor learning ability, I can spend more time than normal people. Don’t worry about a bunch of concerns. If your perception is not enough, strive to improve it. If your knowledge is not enough, strive to enrich it. If your skills are not enough, strive to learn. Many people say that choice is greater than effort, which is indeed true, but without effort, how do you know what to choose? Know what you lack and make up for it. Don’t let laziness and stupidity become your excuses.

This article is not only written for everyone to read, but also dedicated to the me in the past who dropped out of junior high school and repeated it, the me who was told by my homeroom teacher on a birthday card in high school that she was very disappointed in me, and the me who barely graduated from university with a poor academic performance. Don’t let anyone else define you. Only you can define yourself.
