Last night, Microsoft completely disrupted the way most people work.
At the Microsoft 365 Copilot event held by Microsoft, Microsoft officially integrated OpenAI’s GPT-4 model into the Office suite and launched a new AI feature called Copilot.

Before this, we have already seen the power of the GPT-4 model, but can it really handle all the work-related PPT, Word, and Excel documents thrown at it?
In summary: If “proficiency in the Office suite” is still the most impressive skill on your resume in the future, you will most likely not be able to find a job.
At the beginning of the event, Microsoft Vice President Jared SLianGuaitaro made a tough statement:
One hundred years from now, we will look back at this moment and say, “That was the beginning of the true digital age.”
After watching Microsoft’s demonstration, I feel that Microsoft is serious.
Copilot, please guide me
I still remember the amazement and envy when I first saw Tony and Jarvis chatting in the movie theater, selecting colors for the armored suits. Now we can finally have our own Jarvis, and it is Copilot.
One sentence to understand Copilot:
-
In Word, it can edit, summarize, and create with us;
-
In PowerPoint, it can turn a sentence idea into a presentation;
-
In Excel, it can analyze trends and visualize data;
-
In Outlook, it can manage the inbox;
-
In meetings, it can organize meeting summaries and set goals at any time;
-
In development, it can simplify the development process;
-
In business communication, it can summarize chats, write emails, and even write plans.
Word: Drafting, writing proposals, all done with one command
Microsoft 365 Copilot is integrated into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, which we use every day. It will help you handle all the trivial matters, while you can focus on the most important work.
Let’s take Word, which everyone uses daily, as an example.
What used to be an all-nighter for writing papers, planning proposals, and legal contracts can now be done with just one command to Copilot.
This is not using AI to write empty words to fool people. Copilot accesses the files stored on your OneDrive and writes suitable content based on the information you provide.
For example, you can have Copilot draft a two-page proposal based on prepared paper materials and research data, or summarize the sales data for this quarter.
If you are not satisfied with the content written by Copilot, you can also have it rewritten in a more professional, passionate, or leisurely tone, or make it longer or shorter.
These effects do not require you to copy and paste or modify the format. All you need to do is input instructions into Copilot like chatting, and then a document that used to take countless hairs to write in the past is easily completed.
Excel: Say goodbye to functions, visualizations only require one sentence
If you often work with Excel and always fail to remember functions or learn how to create visual charts, Copilot can also be of great help.
Insert tables, adjust formatting, introduce functions, these are just the basic functions of Copilot.
If you can’t see the relationship between the data, just ask Copilot to help you analyze three key trends in one sentence.
If the quarterly sales have been declining but you can’t find the reason, Copilot can directly generate visual charts for you to help analyze the possible variables that may have an impact.
You can also ask Copilot to simulate the current table’s growth rate and see what impact it will have on your gross profit margin in the future.
Leave all the requirements that interns can’t understand to Copilot.
PowerPoint: Mature software can create PPT by itself
If your resume has always stated “proficient in PowerPoint”, but you always have to work overtime in the job because of a PPT that needs to be submitted the next day, now you don’t have to worry, because Office has grown up and it has learned to create PPT by itself.
How long does it take to create a PPT? Enter the information you need to present and the style you want, click generate, and a beautifully formatted and animated PPT is born.
Copilot can even provide annotations for the presentation. If you are not satisfied with the animation effects, you can also tell Copilot at any time to adjust the layout accordingly (such as aligning the picture to the left) and set the animation time.
One feature of Copilot that really impressed me is converting Word documents into presentations.
When your boss gives you a speech manuscript and asks you to complete a presentation within 2 hours for a meeting. Don’t panic, just open PowerPoint, send this Word document to Copilot, and tell it “create 10 slides based on the Word document and include the pictures in the working folder”.
Next, you will have a beautiful presentation and an hour and a half of free time.
The only worry is that if the boss also knows about this function, maybe you won’t be needed anymore.
Outlook: A Dedicated Secretary Who Can Write and Read
I believe that for many employees, writing emails and replying to emails is a very boring task. The cumbersome etiquette statements make communication unnecessarily complex and reduce efficiency.
With Copilot, you can delegate these trivial matters to it and focus on more important information communication.
For example, if you want to send an email inviting friends and family to a gathering, you can tell Copilot your requirements. It can not only help you write the invitation email, but also find the agreed-upon location from your previous emails and add it to the invitation.
In addition to writing emails, Copilot can also help you summarize the emails you missed and mark all the important items worth noting.
What? You think the emails it writes are long and boring?
No worries, it’s just as easy as clicking the mouse. You can adjust the tone of the writing and the length of the content with Copilot.
Teams: Welcome New Team Members
In addition to individual work, Copilot also plays a very important role in team collaboration.
Perhaps you have experienced a day with two meetings, one of which lasted half a day, and you didn’t know how to write the daily report by the end of the day. Teams with Copilot can help you and your colleagues improve meeting efficiency.
In the meeting, it acts as an excellent meeting assistant, organizing key discussion points and summarizing meeting conclusions, and guiding the meeting process at any time. Even after the meeting, based on today’s meeting discussions, it can help the team set the agenda and participants for the next meeting.
If you are overwhelmed and forget the key points of an upcoming meeting, you can also ask Copilot to tell you what was discussed in the meeting, what disagreements arose, and provide steps for solutions and suggestions.
Based on Copilot, Microsoft has also announced a new feature: Business Chat. Integrated into software such as Microsoft 365 and Windows, including calendars, emails, documents, contacts, etc., you can use language prompts like “Tell my team how to update our product strategy” to let Business Chat assist in updating meeting and email statuses for the team.
Artificial Intelligence Will Change Everyone’s Work
After watching the entire press conference, my first impression is: the moment of an AI-powered iPhone is finally coming.
Copilot is the super application that the AI industry has been waiting for. It fundamentally changes people’s work methods, liberating them from repetitive and tedious tasks, and allowing them to have more time and energy to focus on more advanced creative work.
What’s more important is that you no longer need to worry about how smart the artificial intelligence behind it is, or how large the language model is. You just need to open Office and tell it your ideas, just like swiping your fingers on a touch screen.
A new digital production era has arrived. With the support of Copilot, Word becomes more creative, Excel becomes more analytical, PowerPoint becomes more expressive, Outlook becomes more productive, and Teams becomes more collaborative.
And your inspiration becomes even more powerful.
So when can we start using Copilot?
Currently, Microsoft is testing Microsoft 365 Copilot with 20 companies, including 8 Fortune 500 companies. In the coming months, Microsoft will continue to share information about Copilot, including its features and pricing.
One thing is certain, Copilot will change the way people interact with AI, allowing them to focus on their strengths, quickly acquire new skills, and find meaning and joy in their work.
Until then, please don’t fall behind.
